District Receptionist/HR Assistant
Position Details
Location: District Office
Reports To: Chief Human Resources Officer
Employment Type: Full-Time, 12-Month Position (240-day contract)
Work Schedule: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (may vary as needed)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Position Overview
The Receptionist/HR Assistant serves as the first point of contact for the district office, providing professional customer service to staff, students, families, and community members. This position supports the Human Resources Office with essential HR administrative tasks, including background checks, employment verifications, file management, and general office support.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Professional demeanor and appearance
Preferred:
- Associates Degree or higher
- Previous experience in an office receptionist or administrative support role
- Experience with HR systems or background check processes
Compensation
Compensation will be commensurate with the district salary schedule for a Receptionist/HR Assistant position.
Primary Responsibilities by Category
- Reception and Front Office
- Greet and assist all visitors entering the district office
- Answer and direct incoming phone calls professionally
- Manage front desk operations, including sign-in procedures and visitor badges
- Receive, sort, and distribute mail and packages
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming reception area
- Background Checks
- Process criminal background checks for new hires, substitutes, and volunteers
- Maintain volunteer background check list and tracking system
- Follow up on incomplete or pending background checks
- Notify CHRO of any adverse findings
- Employment Verifications
- Process and respond to employment verification requests
- Verify employment dates, positions, and salary information as permitted
- Maintain logs of verification requests and responses
- UKG System Support
- Unlock employee accounts in UKG system
- Reset employee passwords and provide basic troubleshooting
- Guide employees through UKG login procedures
- Interview Scheduling
- Schedule interviews as needed
- Communicate interview details to candidates and panel members
Backup Support (As Needed)
Assist with workers' compensation incident reporting
Provide FMLA forms and initial guidance to employees
Support other HR administrative tasks as assigned
Enter and update employment data in SC DEW systems for:
- Barnwell County School District (BCSD)
- BSD45, BCCSD, W29, B19
- Respond to unemployment claim notices and documentation requests
- Process quarterly unemployment reporting
General Administrative Support
- Assist CHRO with scheduling and correspondence
- Maintain office supplies for HR department
- Perform data entry and maintain HR records
- Support district HR initiatives and projects
- Perform other duties as assigned
